PARRAMORE TEENS SAY GOODBYE TO SUMMER
WITH CITYTEENZ BACK TO SCHOOL JAM
AT DOWNTOWN REC CENTER
Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer and District 5
Commissioner Daisy W. Lynum Hang with Local Teens to Help Get Ready for New
School Year
WHAT: More than 350 teenagers from the
Parramore Heritage Neighborhood will attend the end of summer celebration for
the City of Orlando’s CityTeenz summer program. As a part of the Pathways for
Parramore initiative unveiled earlier this season by Mayor Buddy Dyer and
District 5 Commissioner Daisy W. Lynum, CityTeenz provided scholarships to
Parramore teenagers to attend unique summer programs.
Throughout the entire summer, the City of Orlando’s Office of Children and
Education was able to coordinate scholarships for more than 300 Parramore
children and teens to attend programs such as acting classes at the Mad Cow
Theatre, camp at Restore Orlando, and a week at the Orlando Science Center’s “It
IS Rocket Science” program - including VIP seating at the recent launch of the
space shuttle.
The Back-to-School Jam will include a 3-on-3-basketball tournament, food and
entertainment, including performances by local teenagers. Teens will also
receive free backpacks and certificates for participating in CityTeenz, and gift
certificates to help them purchase back-to-school clothing. Also, Mayor Buddy
Dyer and Commissioner Daisy W. Lynum will present trophies to the first and
second place winners of the basketball tournament.
