ORLANDO FIRE DEPARTMENT CELEBRATES 120 YEARS OF SERVICE WITH FIRE PREVENTION RALLY AT ORLANDO FIRE MUSEUM

First Annual Firefighter Chili Cook-Off and Re-Launch of Orlando Fire Museum In Honor of National Fire Prevention Month

WHAT: Since 1885, the City of Orlando Fire Department (OFD) has been protecting the lives and property of Orlando citizens and visitors, and now, in their 120th year, is celebrating their service to the City of Orlando.

This Saturday, October 1st, Orlando Firefighters invite all citizens to participate in the Orlando Fire Prevention Rally with the re-launch of the Orlando Fire Museum and the first annual Firefighter Chili Cook-Off. The Chili Cook-off, will feature chili prepared by Orlando Firefighters that will be taste-tested by local celebrity judges. Once the judges select the winning batch of chili, citizens will be invited to select their favorite chili and enjoy the new picnic tables built by OFD for visiting schools to utilize on their field trips to the newly renovated museum.

The Orlando Fire Museum, old Firehouse #3 built in 1926, will host guided tours to showcase artifacts from the department’s rich 120-year history of service in the City Beautiful. The Museum is a member of the Fire Museum network and exists to preserve and interpret the traditions of the City’s fire service.

Additionally, Orlando firefighters from around the City will be present with their fire brigade and trucks. Throughout the day, OFD will offer demonstrations from teams including high angle rescue, bomb squad special operations and K-9 arson investigators unit. Fire engines and special fire vehicles will be on display such as haz mat, stokes basket, tower and more.

The event is open to the public and will feature food, music, live demonstrations and activities for the entire family.
