ORLANDO, FL (November 23, 2005) – Beginning Thanksgiving Day, Commissioner Betty Wyman will launch a holiday tree sale in Downtown Orlando to benefit the After-School All-Stars (ASAS), a national provider of out-of-school programming for at-risk children, which is locally chaired by the Commissioner.

More than 600 of the highest quality trees will be available Thursday, Thanksgiving Day and on sale through December 10th. The trees – Frasier firs – range in size from 3 feet to 12 feet tall and tax-free prices range based on tree height. Both cash and checks made payable to After-School All-Stars will be accepted.

ASAS provides after school and summer programming, which encompasses academics, computer training, arts and culture activities, life skills training, and sports and fitness activities. This program is located in 15 U.S. Cities across the country.

“The After-School All-Stars offers a proven alternative for 1,200 middle-school children throughout Central Florida,” said Commissioner Betty Wyman. “We have programs designed to keep children safe and help them achieve success in school and life. Our goal is to engage middle-school children in activities that promote confidence and encourage success.” The following City of Orlando schools participate in ASAS: Blankner K-8, Carver Middle School, Howard Middle School, Lee Middle School, Memorial Middle School, Odyssey Middle School, and Stonewall Jackson Middle School.

The holiday tree sale is also made possible by Rosario Poma, an After-School All-Stars Board Member and owner of Wildsides Thorton Park and Wildsides Café City Hall who is donating his time and expertise from his family’s roots in Christmas tree farming for more than 50 years.
