LOCAL COMPANIES TEAM WITH COMMISSIONER PATTY SHEEHAN TO DELIVER BIKES TO
CHILDREN IN NEED – JUST IN TIME FOR CHRISTMAS
WHAT: This is the fourth annual “Wheels for Kids” event to benefit
children living in Orlando Housing Authority’s Reeves Terrace. More than 90
children (ages 5-14) will receive free bikes, helmets and locks from local
businesses. The program was started in 2002 after school bus routes from Reeves
Terrace were cancelled, leaving many children without transportation to school.
Since then, area businesses have partnered to donate more than 320 bikes to
children in need.
Santa, along with Commissioner Sheehan and the “Wheels for Kids” sponsors, will
deliver the bikes atop a fire engine, complete with an Orlando Police Department
escort. Police officers will also be on hand to train the children in bike
safety.
WHEN: Friday, Dec 23, 2005
9:30 a.m. – Noon
WHERE: Howard Middle School
800 East Robinson Street
Orlando, FL 32801
