Mayor Buddy Dyer’s
Community Builder Award

“I appreciate every City resident who has donated their time, talent and resources to improving our quality of life. Through hard work, unprecedented partnerships and a shared vision we’ve set our City on course for a better tomorrow for everyone who lives here, works here, or chooses to raise a family in Orlando.” - Mayor Buddy Dyer

Fronie Jones - 2013 Community Builder Award Recipient

Fronie Jones is a leading board member of the Orlando Neighborhood Improvement Corporation (ONIC).  She is a Community Leadership Institute (CLI) graduate and President Elect of the Palm Grove Gardens Neighborhood Association.  For more than 20 years, she has volunteered for numerous community efforts, whenever and wherever she is needed.

Fronie is tireless in her efforts to engage her community and to support the initiatives of ONIC’s Resident Services.  She is known to many residents and is an avid supporter, cheer leader and recruiter for community programs and events, including ONIC’s Cultural Arts Program, Prodigy, and a tutoring program for kids called LEAP, which is a Mayor’s Matching Grants Program.

She led a KaBOOM! playground build in Orlando and was chosen to represent ONIC at the national KaBOOM! Organization’s national staff retreat in Washington, DC, last March.  The KaBOOM! Team was highly impressed with Fronie’s volunteerism and leadership.

Fronie was hailed as Orlando’s Community Grandma by the NeighborhoodWorks National Community Leadership Institute in 2012. Participants who visited Palm Grove Gardens on a mobile tour to find out more about the Resident Prosperity Program said her dedication to her community is “above and beyond”.  She has been an active volunteer in Palm Grove Gardens since 1995.
