This grant provides relief and supplies to the Homeowner’s Association as a whole.  In 2004, we recognized that we needed a ‘safe house’ for the elderly and the young that could provide air conditioning, ice and basic supplies.  We intend to transform our community house into just that.

Partners

Sun Trust Bank, Ant’s Mobile Car Care, Porter Paints, Bryan Young Carpentry and General Maintenance, LLC, Khan’s Enterprise Service, Rachael Goodson, Colin Winter

Our project included cleaning and painting our sub-division wall. Our wall was more than 22 years old. It was in a desperate need of a good cleaning and a new paint job. The project was important because we had graffiti sprayed all over the wall. Our project involved adding signage to our front entrance area. Now that our project is complete, we have seen an increase in homeowners pride and participation. Finally, our residents are happy to call Rose Point ‘home’.

Wadeview Neighborhood Association Newsletter

Partners

Sun Trust Bank, Office Depot Printing Department

The Mayors Matching Grant allowed our neighborhood association to publish 12 monthly newsletters for 900 residents and 300 businesses. It has also allowed us to save the funds to publish the 2007 newsletter as well. Each month valuable information and articles from neighbors are passed on to keep our citizens abreast of key issues or concerns that may affect them. This newsletter has been a tool used to bond our neighborhood together and build a stronger relationship with each other.

Project

Exploring Florida’s Black Heritage

Partners

Sun Trust Bank

The project provided our seniors with an abundance of cultural knowledge that they were not aware of right here in our state, especially Jacksonville. We wish that more could have participated, and hopefully at another time we can do the trip again.
