Volunteer Opportunities

Associate Explorer Advisor
Assist with supervising Tuesday night meetings. Work with the Executive Explorer Board. Chaperone various trips. Assist with scheduling training topics, record keeping, paperwork and files. Experience with high school and college age students preferred.

CID Administrative Assistant
Fill-in within the criminal investigations division during vacations or when assistance is needed. Process mail, answer telephone and operate office equipment. Working knowledge of PC with Microsoft Word required.

Cop Shop Assistant
Handle sales transactions and maintain inventory in Cop Shop. Four hour shifts available, weekdays between 8AM and 4PM. Basic math skills and the ability to use a calculator as well as excellent interpersonal skills required.

Identification Assistant
Assist with fingerprinting on Wednesday. Duties include instructing customers on filling out paperwork, separating arrest reports, operating X-image machine, etc. English/Spanish speaking helpful. Experience working with the public and the ability to follow directions.

I-Drive Office Assistant
Perform administrative tasks for the International Drive Office. Prepare correspondence using Microsoft Word, answer telephone, photocopy and file documents. Excellent oral communication. Good interpersonal skills. Knowledge of Microsoft Word. Four Hour shifts weekdays between 8AM and 5PM

Investigative Aide Property Section
Perform administrative tasks for the Property Section Unit. Assist in victim notification and contact. Advise victims of case status and additional information. Excellent oral and written communication skills required.

Investigative Aide Sex Crimes
Contact victims of crime to update victim information. Contact victims of obscene phone calls on protocol for criminal prosecution. Update sexual offender books/database. Clerical office duties include filing and answering phones. Ability to interact with detectives and crime victims. Must have excellent oral and written communication skills. Ability to organize administrative paperwork. Legal experience highly desirable but not mandatory.

Mounted Patrol Assistant
Clean tack, groom and bathe horses, clean stable facilities, assist grooms as needed, exercise horses. Skills: dressage, hunter-jumper or 3-day event. A weekly commitment is desired.

Patrol Division Clerical Assistant
Type routine documents, proofread, photocopy, file and distribute mail. General Office duties. Office experience and excellent written skills as well as working knowledge of Microsoft Word. Evenings, approximately 3-4 hours.

Property & Evidence Office Assistant
Assist with sorting and filing evidence cards, typing lists of evidence needing to be purged and helping staff move and organize items in evidence.
Skills: Ability to type 25 words per minuet. Position requires close attention to detail and ability to work with minimal supervision. Four hour shifts on weekdays between 9AM and 5PM

Public Information Office Assistant
Assist with daily errands in the Public Information Office. Assist with requests from the media. Research incidents and cases, answer phone calls from the media, fax items and handle various tasks as needed. Skills: ability to understand and take direction, basic computer skills, detail oriented and pleasant demeanor. Media experience desired. At least eight hours per week.

Special Projects Assistant
Assist in a variety of areas depending upon need. Examples of opportunities include answering hotline phone during critical situations., cutting ribbons for Domestic Violence Week, helping with Crimeline Walk or other OPD related events. The volunteer would serve on an "on-call as-needed" basis. Skills: vary depending on assignment.
