Goal

To create networks among the City of Orlando's homeowners/neighborhood/resident associations and community-based organizations to identify and establish regular contact with seniors, especially those who may be home bound.

Purpose

To educate seniors about emergency preparedness

To inform seniors about the services, activities, and events available to them


Steps to Implementing SeniorLinks
in your Neighborhood

  • Elect or appoint a SeniorLinks liaison or create a SeniorLinks committee

  • Inform the SeniorLinks Facilitator at the Office of Communications & Neighborhood Enhancement

  • Schedule training sessions with the Office of Communications & Neighborhood Enhancement

  • Identify seniors interested in receiving SeniorLinks information

  • Distribute information periodically to your senior neighbors

  • Report program progress and activities to your association membership and to the Office of Communications & Neighborhood Enhancement

Benefits

  • Informs and educates seniors about local programs, including emergency preparedness

  • Engages youth and families in regular communication with seniors

  • Promotes neighbors helping neighbors

  • Encourages seniors to participate and contribute to neighborhood life

  • Helps seniors with everyday concerns and needs

  • Fosters the ability of seniors to live independently in their chosen neighborhood

Other Projects & Ideas

  • Host a morning coffee get together for seniors

  • Invite seniors to association meetings; escort them, if necessary

  • Encourage social gatherings/outings with neighborhood seniors

  • Encourage neighbors to become SeniorLinks volunteers

  • Set a time before or after regular association meetings for socializing
