Fallen Firefighters

FF Roger "Deke" Corum
(Served OFD from October 1924 to December 1944)

In the winter of 1944, FF Deke Corum was the first member of the Orlando Fire Department killed in the line of duty. He was killed enroute to a fire emergency when the fire engine was struck by another vehicle. After the initial collision, the engine struck a tree, killing the veteran firefighter. The accident occurred at the intersection of Livingston and Summerlin.
