Waterbabies - Infant and Preschool Aquatics Program

Waterbabies helps young children ages six months to five years old become comfortable in and around the water so they can learn to swim.  The program gives parents information and techniques to help orient their children to the water and to supervise water activities in a safe manner.

Infant Level: 6–18 months

Parent/Adult accompaniment in the water is required.

Toddler Level: 18-36 months

Parent/Adult accompaniment in the water is required.

Preschool Level: 3-5 years

These children will be taught age appropriate basic swimming and safety skills.

Learn to Swim

Youth: 6-17 years

Level I: Introduction to Water Skills

Introduces students to the water to feel comfortable and enjoy the water safely.

Level II: Fundamental Aquatics Skills

The objective of Level II is to give students success with fundamental skills.  This Level marks the beginning of true locomotion skills and adds to the self-help and basic rescue skills started in Level I.  Must have Level I certificate or be able to demonstrate all the completion requirements in Level I.

Level III: Stroke Development

Level III builds on the skills in Level II by providing guided practice.  Front and back crawl strokes are developed and the fundamentals of treading water is introduced.  Must have a Level II certificate or be able to demonstrate all the completion requirements in Level II.

Level IV: Stroke Improvement

Level IV develops confidence in the strokes learned thus far and improves on other aquatic skills such as  breastroke, elementary backstroke, butterfly and open turns.  Must have a Level III certificate or be able to demonstrate all completion requirements in Level III.

Level V: Stroke Refinement

Level V is coordination and refinement of key strokes.  Introduction of flip turns, sidestroke and rescue breathing.  Must have a Level IV certificate or be able to demonstrate all of the requirements in Level IV.

Level VI: Swimming and Skill Proficiency
