Mayor Dyer to Host Grand Re-Opening of Barker Park
New Amenities Enhance Park for Residents
|
WHAT: |
On Thursday,
Mayor Dyer, District 5 City Commissioner Daisy
W. Lynum and District 6 Commissioner Sam B. Ings
will re-open George Barker Park. Originally
developed in 1968, Barker Park was renovated to
enhance the overall park experience with two new
children’s play areas, fishing docks, a
pavilion, lighting and landscaping.
Located on Clear Lake, this seven-acre
neighborhood park provides a variety of
recreational opportunities for residents. It
also has facilities for boating and large group
gatherings. The park is named for George A.
Barker Jr., a City Commissioner from 1953 to
1963.
Since 2003, Mayor Dyer has opened
or renovated 50 parks, ball fields and community
centers, building on the City’s 1500 acres of
park and community space
