Mayor Dyer Announces
Orlando is a “Playful City USA” Community

WHAT: |
The KaBOOM! and qubo
have named the City of Orlando one of the
nation’s “Playful City USA” communities. This
distinction honors innovative efforts in making
play a priority for local children, and it has
been awarded to only 67 cities. Quantity,
quality, and access to playgrounds were the
determining standards in selecting the top
communities. The City of Orlando was selected in
part for its innovative creation of the City
Play Board, a cross-functional board that
includes Mayor Buddy Dyer and Director of
Families, Parks, and Recreation Lisa Early works
hard to see that the commitment to providing
structured and unstructured opportunities for
play and recreation are made available to
residents.
Playful
City USA is in its second year as an annual
national recognition program that honors cities
across the country for putting their children’s
well-being first by recognizing and channeling
the power of play. KaBOOM! is a national
non-profit organization with a mission of
bringing play back into the lives of children,
and qubo is a television and online service for
children.
