City of Orlando Joins National Campaign to Combat Early Literacy Crisis
Jumpstart’s Read for the Record – October 8
Annual Campaign Makes History as Children Read the Same Book on the Same Day

WHAT: Eric Carle’s classic, “The Very Hungry Caterpillar,” to children as part of Jumpstart’s Read for the Record, presented in partnership with Pearson, to bring attention to America’s early literacy crisis. City of Orlando Director of Families, Parks and Recreation, Lisa Early, will read to the pre-school children enrolled in the Orange County Head Start program at the Dr. J.B. Callahan Neighborhood Center.

Jumpstart’s Read for the Record highlights the importance of early literacy to raise awareness about the importance of reading with young children to ensure they learn crucial early language and literacy skills to succeed in school and in life. Jumpstart is a national early education organization that works toward the day every child in America enters school prepared to succeed.
