Division Description

After-School All-Stars, formerly Orlando Inner-City Games, was founded in response to the growing number of young people across the nation living in poverty and facing the negative influences surrounding youth living in unfortunate conditions. In 1991, Arnold Schwarzenegger joined forces with Danny Hernandez, a youth center director in East Los Angeles, and created an annual youth Olympic style sporting event, known as the Inner-City Games. In 1995, the Inner-City Games Foundation (ICGF) was formed, opening 15 chapters across the United States over five years period, including Orlando, one of the first chapters.

In 2003, Inner-City Games’ name changed to After-School All-Stars with a focus on a five-day a week comprehensive after school programs. Today, Orlando After-School All-Stars, a 501 c 3 charitable organization partners with the City of Orlando’s Families, Parks & Recreation Department to offer before and after school programs at seven city middle schools sites five-days a week, and a seven-week summer camp program at five city middle schools.
