Rental Information Dr. J. B. Callahan Neighborhood Center History

Highlights:

The Dr. J. B. Callahan Neighborhood Center is located at the corner of North Parramore Avenue and Washington Street. The programs are designed for children ages 5 to 17 as well as adults. The center is also a host to an Orange County Head Start program and a variety of evening programs and activities for the community.

Programs:

Boy Scouts (ages 5 - 10): Wednesday, 4:30 - 5:30 p.m. - Callahan Boy Scouts program will provide educational programs that are designed to build desirable qualities of character; to train in the responsibilities of participating in citizenship; and to develop personal fitness.

Camp Orlando Summer Camp (ages 5 - 10): a safe and affordable summer camp program for youth. This five-day week program at 16 City recreation centers offers a variety of activities, including swimming, crafts, outdoor activities, nature programs, exciting field trips (additional expense), computer labs, arts and crafts, and special events. Sites may offer different activities according to the interests of the children who participate in programs.  
  

Computer Lab (all ages): Offering open lab for research, resume writing, homework, internet access, and other activities. Hours for open lab are:
     Mon - Fri: 9 a.m. - 12 p.m.
     Sat: 12 – 4 p.m.

GROSS (OASIS participants only): Wednesdays from 2:30 - 3:45 p.m. GROSS is a nutrition education program that promotes an increase fruit and vegetable consumption and teaches tasting fruits and vegetables from the 5 color groups. Every week a different color group will be highlighted and the children will be challenged to eat fruits and vegetables they may or may not normally eat at home.

Head Start Program (ages 3 – 4): Mon - Fri, 7:30 a.m. – 2 p.m. - Classroom, Pre-K class and associated activities. Call 407.245.0910 for more information.

HEBNI Nutrition Class (ages 5 - 13): Mondays from 4 - 5 p.m. Educates on the importance of healthy eating and offers hands-on demonstrations of healthy snacks and foods the students can make at home.

Job Partnerships: Thursdays 5:30 - 8:30 p.m. - 12 week Employability Enhancement Training Classes.

Junior League: 2nd Tuesday of each month from 5:30 -7 p.m. Activities will cover aspect of health, nutrition, exercise, cooking with the kids, snack prep with books and reading.

Mariposa (ages 18 and over): Mondays from 6:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. A program geared toward empowering women using positive reinforcement.

OASIS (Orlando After School Is Super) (ages 5 - 10): An after-school program for youth ages 5 to 10 that provides supervised activities for elementary school age children. Children can have access to opportunities such as homework assistance, computer labs, game rooms, cultural arts, pottery, arts and crafts, dance recitals and field trips to local attractions, football, and basketball games.


OMYGA Youth Golf Program (ages 6 - 18): Friday at 6 p.m. Children learn basic golf education and social skills.  Practice on the green every Saturday.

Prodigy: Mon, Tues, Thurs and Fridays - Ages (7-12) 4 - 5:30 p.m. Ages (13-17) 5:30 – 7 p.m. Children learn communication problem solving and conflict resolution skills through the visual in performing arts.

Quick Start United States Tennis Association (USTA) Program (ages 5 - 13): Mondays from 4 - 5 p.m. Tennis pros teach the students the fundamentals of tennis and engage the students in active living while introducing them to the world of tennis.

Recess & Results (OASIS participants only): Thursdays & Fridays from 3 - 4 p.m. Recess & Results brings old-fashioned recess back to our youth through energetic and charismatic instructors, establishing a pattern of physical activity and healthy lifestyle choices at an early age giving RESULTS that lead to a lifelong wellness and overall success.

Royalty Modeling (ages 5- 35): Wednesdays & Fridays from 6 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. Focus on building up boys' and girls' self-esteem with the use of modeling techniques.

School Vacation Daze (ages 5- 10): A youth program coinciding with school holidays from 7:30 a.m. - 5:30 p.m.  Offering fun activities during school breaks, children can enjoy crafts, outdoor activities, game rooms, and much more during the traditional Orange County Public School vacation calendar year. Register at site prior to school holidays.

Seniors On The Move (ages 55 and over): Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday, 10 a.m. - 12 p.m. Active seniors will participate in walking & chair exercises, arts & crafts, movie day, social gatherings, and educational & cultural tours.


Students Working Against Tobacco (S.W.A.T.): Thursday from 3 - 4 p.m. An organization for the youth ages 11-17 to stop tobacco advertising to teens.


Young Fathers of Central Florida: Saturday from 12 - 3 p.m. provide supportive services for fathers under the age of 24.

Rentals and Public Use:

Dr. J. B. Callahan Neighborhood Center offers certain rooms within the facility for rent for events such as birthday parties, meetings, showers, and so on.
  • Full Auditorium Rental - $50 per hour (3 hour min) - Capacity 210 persons.
  • ½ Auditorium Rental - $37.50 per hour (3 hour min) - Capacity 105 persons.
  • Kitchen - $15 per hour (2 hour min) - Capacity 6 persons.
  • Conference Room - $20 per hour (1 hour min) - Capacity 12/15 persons.
  • Multi-purpose Room - $30 per hour (2 hour min) - Capacity 65 persons.
Rental Policy and Procedures
  • $100 Damage Deposit Required. Deposit will be refunded 4 to 6 weeks after rental if no damage was found after the rental.
  • Insurance is not refundable and prices range from $31 to $80 and will protect any injuries that may happen during the rental.
  • No Alcoholic Beverages allowed.
  • All rentals must be scheduled 14 days prior to event.
  • All rentals must be paid in full at time of booking.
  • Rentals must be cancelled at least 72 hours prior to event to receive a refund.
Public Use
  • Game Room and Computer Lab are open to the public at no charge during operational hours.
  • The Computer Lab will close for the OASIS after school program from August through May from 12 p.m. - 6 p.m. Monday through Friday.  On Saturdays, the Computer Lab is open from 12 p.m. - 5 p.m.
