Regional Center

The Engelwood Neighborhood Center is a large facility with two large multi-purpose rooms (one with a small stage), two smaller classrooms, an open bay area, and two kitchens. Highlights are the popular gymnasium; the 2000 sq. ft. state of the art fitness room offering Cybex weight machines, free weights, and Star Trac cardio equipment including two recumbent bikes, two treadmills, one stair-climber, and one rowing machine; a computer lab hosting 11 computers with internet access; a game room with three pool tables, table tennis and foosball. Outside there are two outdoor basketball courts, a playground, a softball field, a soccer corral, and a swimming pool with a child’s play pool.

Programs:

ESOL: Monday - Friday, 9 am – 12 pm , – An ADULT English for speakers of other languages class, through the Orange County Public School System. Those interested must come in Monday through Friday or call (407) 482-6304 ext. 2290 to register.  Enrollment fee is $25.

Dance: Dance Classes are held on Tuesdays.  There are four different classes offered: Tiny Tot Ballet at 4:15 p.m. for ages 3 - 5 years; Ballet at 5 p.m. for ages 5 - 11 years; Hip Hop at 6 p.m. for ages 6 - 12 years; and modern/contemporary at 7 p.m. for ages 6 - 12 years.  Cost is $25 per month.

Junior Counselor (ages 13 - 15): This year round program offers teens the opportunity to learn job skills by being interviewed, assist counselors and front desk personnel, assist with evaluations, attend field trips to businesses in the area, workshops, and seminars

Junior Magic Basketball: December – March, Ages – 9 and Under, 11 and Under, 13 and Under, 15 and Under – Basketball program run in correlation with the City of Orlando’s Athletic Department; This league is a league to help better the participant’s skill in basketball as well as provide an enjoyable team experience; Youth are evaluated then placed on a team; All teams are put together with the hopes of creating equal level of skilled and unskilled players on each team to make the league competitive, yet fun; Cost – $31 per participant (includes Jersey)

Karate: Mon and Wed, 5 – 6 pm (beginners), 6 – 7 pm (intermediate and advance) – A martial arts class for all ages, Classes include a beginner, intermediate and advanced course, Costs – $25 a month, Instructor - Henry Graves

Kick Aerobics: Mon, Wed, Fri – 7 pm - 8 pm This class includes both a cardio (aerobics) and free weight workout, Costs – $25 a month, Instructor - Henry Graves

OASIS (Orlando After School Is Super): Monday – Friday, 3 pm - 6 pm – Our after-school program serves 150 elementary aged youth in grades Kindergarten through 5th grade; The students are walked over from our two neighborhood school, Engelwood Elementary and Chickasaw Elementary; The staff to student ratio is 1 to 15; The students are divided into groups by their grades; Daily activities include homework, cooking class, gym, game room, playground, and arts & crafts; Costs – City Residents is $20 a month, Reduced Lunch is $5 a month, Free Lunch $0 a month, NON-Residents (County) is $40 a month

Seniors First (ages 55 and up): Year round, socializing and eating, billiards and dominoes, bilingual bingo, field trips and more.  Monday – Friday, 8 am – 1 pm, Seniors Coordinator: Millie Garcia – This program is run by Seniors First, which is a Meal on Wheels, Home Improvement, and Homemaker service for Senior Citizens; The seniors are involved in many activities such as bingo, pool billiards, dominoes, arts and crafts, and field trips; Those interested must contact Seniors First at 407-292-0177 (Lisa McCrystal)

Summer Program: Monday – Friday, 7: 30 am – 5: 30 pm – Registration begins the first Saturday in April; Our program consists of 200 youth participants’ ages 5 yrs – 11 yrs, grades 1st through 5th ONLY; We DO NOT accept Kindergarteners or Middle School Students; Summer activities include, but are not limited to – game room, computer lab, playground, arts and crafts, gym, weekly field trips, swimming, etc; Costs – City Residents is $40 a weekly, Reduced lunch is $5a weekly, Free Lunch is $0 a weekly, Non-Residents (county) is $50 a weekly
