City of Orlando's Parramore Kidz Zone Project Receives
National Recognition
|
WHAT: |
In the year
since Orlando Mayor Dyer launched the Parramore
Kidz Zone initiative, the coalition of more than
40 community partners has positively impacted
more than 25% of kids in the neighborhood. Now
this unique youth development plan is receiving
national recognition. On Friday, Mayor Dyer
will announce why the Parramore Kidz Zone was
selected for inclusion in a national initiative
for youth, education and families. Because of
the City’s participation, Parramore Kidz Zone
will benefit from direct access to national
experts, knowledge sharing and professional
development. Additionally, this will open the
door for supplementary national funding
opportunities to further grow and sustain the
Parramore Kidz Zone.
Modeled after the
Harlem Children’s Zone, Parramore Kidz Zone
employs creative outreach to engage a critical
mass of Parramore’s children and link them to
positive opportunities, including
pre-kindergarten education, parenting education,
healthcare, mentoring, tutoring, and
constructive activities when school is out.
