Rock Steady Boxing of Central Florida is being offered at the Wadeview Neighborhood Center. This program teaches the basic movements of boxing twice a week. This non-contact form of boxing enhances the quality of life for those with Parkinson’s by building power, strength, flexibility and speed.
Patients with Parkinson’s who take up boxing have fewer tremors and improved agility and endurance. A two year study by Indianapolis University showed those who participated in non-contact boxing showed more improvement in their balance, flexibility and overall enjoyment of life than those in other community exercise such as yoga or Tai chi. Patients in the boxing program also maintained a better ability to walk.
