On April 19, 2016, at age 24, Gino Nicolas was hit during a drive-by shooting and died as a result of his injuries. His loss has taken a deep toll upon our community.
Through his work as Orlando’s My Brother’s Keeper Coordinator, Gino helped lead our efforts to achieve important goals related to Orlando’s young men of color, including boosting high school and post-secondary completion, reducing the presence of young men of color in our community’s criminal justice system, and connecting our promising youth to mentors and jobs.
Gino was passionate about ensuring that Orlando is a City for Everyone – a city that embraces diversity, promotes fairness and equality and is a welcoming, multicultural community. He was a friend, role model and inspiration to many Orlando youth.
Gino’s good work will live on in the lives of the many people he impacted. We are committed to continuing our efforts, with an even greater sense of urgency, to make sure that every child in Orlando has the opportunity and tools to succeed.
