Parramore Kwanzaa Celebration at Dr. J.B.
Callahan Neighborhood Center with the Lee Norris Rayam
Kwanzaa Institute
|
WHAT: |
On Tuesday, December 28, 2010 the City of
Orlando’s Parramore Kidz Zone will be collaborating with the
Lee Norris Rayam Kwanzaa Institute, Early Learning Coalition
of Orange County, and Bridge to Independence to host a
Kwanzaa celebration at the Dr. J. B. Callahan Neighborhood
Center. The morning will begin with a camp for youth of
Parramore featuring workshops on self esteem, money
management, volunteerism, arts and crafts, storytelling and
face painting. Parramore parents with children ranging in
age from infancy to five years will attend an orientation to
learn about the City’s Parramore Kidz Zone Baby Institute.
Modeled after the Harlem Children’s Zone, Parramore Kidz
Zone employs creative outreach to engage a critical mass of
Parramore’s children and linking them to positive
opportunities, including pre-kindergarten education,
parenting education, health care, mentoring, tutoring, and
constructive activities when school is out.
This will
be followed by a community program with entertainment
honoring Parramore and Central Florida Elders along with
food tasting of African American favorite recipes prepared
by the local community.
