What I think most people don’t understand is that a lot of the kids in my community lack hope, confidence, and faith. Growing up I didn’t attempt certain things because I never felt like I could. Then Coach Marcus instilled a belief in me that I never had in myself. When things didn’t go my way, he worked with me until I accomplished it. Coach often gave me and other kids inspirational talks, talks about faith, and self-confidence.
There’s a certain feeling you get when somebody invests time, money, and energy in you when they’re not obligated to. The confidence I get, when Coach Marcus looks me in my eyes and tells me he believes in me, I can’t explain it. Coach Marcus is like the father I never had, and there’s no way to thank him enough for what he has done. I don’t know where I’d be without him.
