Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer joined After-School All-Stars students and volunteers to fill 700 backpacks with notebooks, pencils and other school supplies. The backpacks are destined for homeless students participating in the After-School All-Stars Summer of Dreams program.
The Free, ten week program provides nearly 1,200 homeless students with academic enrichment, mentoring, meals, and financial counseling. Since 2011 Summer of Dreams has served 8,952 youth in Orange, Osceola and Seminole counties with the help of Founding Sponsor Fifth Third Bank, Siemens, Orlando Utilities Commission, Orlando Health, Orlando City Foundation, Tavistock and Tijuana Flats.
The Summer of Dreams program furthers the City of Orlando’s efforts to help homeless families and students. Donations from the public and private sectors fund the Summer of Dreams program.
