As a part of Mayor Dyer’s Green Works Orlando initiative, the City of Orlando rolled out new, high-tech recycling and trash containers to give downtown residents, visitors and employees the opportunity to recycle.
Along with the recycling containers at Lake Eola Park, recently installed by Keep Orlando Beautiful, Inc., Downtown Orlando will now have seven Bigbelly compacting recycling/trash containers. These containers feature:
- Solar-power to compact the trash and recyclables
- Sensors to alert crews of real-time fill levels
- Standardized recycling labels by Recycle Across America to help users better understand what to put in the bin
These features are key in gathering data about Downtown Orlando’s waste stream and allow the city to optimize trash collection efficiency. It’s also another step forward in making our city green and smart. Look for 14 more recycling/trash containers to be added to the Downtown area in December 2017.
