Q. Does the City provide any kind of Down Payment Assistance?
A.
Yes. The City has a first-time homebuyers assistance program. Down Payment Assistance is available to qualified very low, low, and moderate-income first time homebuyers to purchase newly constructed or existing units within the city limits. Depending on the gross household income, assistance may be $5,000, $7,500, $10,000 or $15,000(in the Parramore Heritage Neighborhood only). Purchasers must occupy the property as a principal residence for at least five (5) years. The downpayment assistance becomes a grant once the period of affordability has been satisfied.

Q. Can I get rental housing assistance from the City of Orlando?
A.
No. Rental housing assistance is provided by the Orlando Housing Authority at 407-894-1500. 

Q. Who provides Section 8 Housing?
A.
You can apply for Section 8 Housing Vouchers at the Orlando Housing Authority at 407-894-1500.

Q. What is necessary for my property to qualify for rehabilitation?
A.
The following requirements must be met: 

  •  

You must own and occupy your home within the city limits.

  •  

 

Your home must be inspected to identify current and potential violations of the City's Minimum Standards Housing Code or the existence of emergency conditions.

  •  

 

Your income must fall within the limits specified by the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development.

  •  

Your taxes, mortgage and homeowners insurance premiums must be current.


Q. How do I apply for assistance?
A.
You may apply in person at our office (City Hall, 6th Floor, 400 S. Orange Ave., Orlando, FL), or you may request an application package be mailed to you. If you apply in person, please call in advance to schedule an appointment so that we may better serve you. Please allow at least one hour.

Q. Do I need to live on the property in order to receive single-family rehabilitation assistance?
A.
Yes. You must own and occupy the property as a principal residence.

Q. Does it matter how much money I make or how little?
A.
The programs are designed to assist very low and low-income owner-occupants as defined by the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development.

Q. What if I move out or sell my property?
A.
The loan becomes due immediately upon sale or transfer of the property or when the property ceases to be owner-occupied.

Q. Does the City have grants (or money) for development (affordable housing)?
A.
The Housing Department administers grant programs; however, we disseminate the funds to the community for development of public facilities as grants and for affordable housing in the form of low interest loans (CDBG, HOME, SHIP, or HOPWA).

Q. What if a citizen purchases a property and would like to request assistance to repair the house for re-sale?
A.
We have a specific program for the rehabilitation and re-sale of housing units to low and moderate-income families (SHIP).

Q. If a person is suddenly left homeless and is seeking emergency shelter, who do we refer them to?
A.
The Salvation Army, The Coalition for the Homeless, Orlando Rescue Mission.

Q. If a citizen calls complaining about their landlord or an apartment complex administrator, who do we refer them to?
A.
Our Human Relations Office will handle tenant-landlord complaint for the City and County. 407-246-2122

Q. Who do I contact if there is a lot I think the City owns and would like to purchase it?
A.
Please contact the Real Estate office at 407-246-2346.

Q. I am interested in developing a business in the Central Florida area, does the City have any buildings available?
A.

Q. Can you give me information about the homes at  Hampton Park?
A.

Q. Does the City have money to assist in establishing a business, moving or expanding an existing business or defraying the cost of impact fees?
A.
