Commissioner Stuart and I had the opportunity to take a sneak peek tour of FACTUR, Orlando’s first makerspace, in advance of its grand opening on September 20th. Makerspaces like FACTUR help support entrepreneurship and cultivate innovative technology and manufacturing products within Orlando’s fast-growing tech industry.
FACTUR, a non-profit member-driven fabrication laboratory and co-working space, will be a creative home for inventors and innovators, providing access to education and the tools needed to design, prototype and create new products and technologies.
During the tour, I had the opportunity to meet some of FACTUR’s makers and learn about their products including:
- Shelter 2.0 – a digitally fabricated shelter used to help displaced people
- Deltamaker – a new 3D printer manufacturer local to the Orlando area
- Global Power – improving established and mature green energy solutions
Commissioner Stuart and I also brushed up on our soldering skills and made our very own blinking LED robot pins.
