It was great to join District 4 City Commissioner Patty Sheehan and employees from the Solid Waste Division on Thursday to deliver home backyard composter units to residents.
In less than one month since we started this program, we have received more than 2,000 requests for composters. It’s great to see such an interest in helping to make Orlando a cleaner, greener city.
The composters, which we are providing to City residents at no charge through our Green Works Orlando initiative, are part of our commitment to transforming Orlando into one of the most environmentally friendly and economically and socially vibrant communities in the nation.
The composters help divert food and yard waste from landfills, leading to reduced greenhouse gas emissions. The cost of each composter will be repaid in three years with the savings from landfill disposal fees.
I encourage you to click here and request your free backyard composter.
