As part of our Stand Up Orlando anti-bullying campaign, a new partnership with the Orlando Repertory Theatre will offer an intensive arts residency program to students at four of our community centers.
Funded through a grant with Walt Disney World, the program will allow the students to work in group settings, explore theatre arts and learn about the role arts can play in combating bullying. At the end of the program, the students will showcase what they have learned during two performances in the Rep’s Universal Theatre at the end of May.
We launched Stand Up Orlando in late October in partnership with the Holocaust Memorial Resource & Education Center of Florida and the Zebra Coalition. Since then, more than 1,000 sixth grade students from City middle schools have visited the Holocaust Center, we’ve launched a new anti-bullying marketing campaign in every middle, high and charter school in Orange County and the Zebra Coalition has provided outreach and youth mental health training to more than 500 students and parents.
This new partnership with the Orlando Repertory Theatre will help Stand Up Orlando continue to teach our young people the importance of celebrating diversity and respecting others.
