April is “Volunteer Appreciation Month,” and I recently thanked those who give their time to make a difference in our community during the Mayors Day of Recognition for National Service and my Volunteer Appreciation Recognition.
Every day, national service members and citizens help address some of the most pressing challenges facing our community, from mentoring and tutoring students through my ORLANDO CARES initiative to assisting our veterans, helping in our city departments and preserving the environment.
With a wide array of needs in our communities – and the fiscal constraints facing government on all levels – Orlando and many other cities are turning to national service and volunteerism to address local needs. I believe that engaging national service members, citizen volunteers and nonprofit partners is a smart strategy for addressing our city’s challenges.
National service and volunteering highlight what makes Orlando a special place – working together to find community solutions.
I thank our national service members and our citizen and employee volunteers for their commitment, and I encourage every resident to join us in strengthening our city through service and volunteering.
