I joined Secretary Robert A. McDonald of the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) and other local, state and federal leaders to dedicate our Orlando VA Medical Center at Lake Nona Medical City.
The Orlando VA Medical Center increases accessibility to quality healthcare for more than 400,000 veterans who call Orlando home. You may see their faces every day and not know the sacrifices they have made serving our country and fighting for our freedom.
For this reason and many more, we want Orlando to be the most veteran-friendly city in the nation and it will remain a top priority of my administration to identify, honor and serve the needs of all these men and women.
That’s why we’re proud to be partnering with the VA on a plan to end veteran homelessness. With our community partners, we are following the success of the Housing First model, which houses our veterans as quickly as possible and surrounds them with the necessary services to keep them housed. Using this model, we have committed to end veteran homelessness in Orlando by the end of this year.
I have a great deal of admiration for our veterans and active-duty military. The Orlando VA Medical Center is another tremendous community asset that will ensure Orlando continues to be a great place for veterans and members of the military to call home.
