We did it. Our model for partnership and collaboration was successful once again, and together we have made the UCF Downtown Campus at Creative Village a reality.
This afternoon, Governor Scott announced that he will approve the funding for the UCF Downtown Campus in the amount of $20 million, an allocation budgeted by the state legislature. I would like to extend my sincere gratitude to Governor Scott for believing in our vision for the UCF Downtown Campus to create jobs, provide new opportunities for the residents of our region and state and to enhance students’ educational experience because of partnerships with nearby industry in our growing Downtown.
I would also like to thank Senate President Andy Gardiner for supporting this important project from the beginning and for leading the charge in navigating this project through the state legislature.
We also celebrate this occasion with our partners for the UCF Downtown Campus including UCF President John C. Hitt and UCF Board of Trustees Chairman Marcos Marchena, Valencia President Sandy Shugart, Orange County Public Schools Superintendent Barbara Jenkins, our philanthropic partners led by Orange County Government and Dr. Phillips Charities and our development partner Creative Village Development LLC.
In a few months, I am certain that we will gather together with our partners for a groundbreaking event, but we won’t only celebrate the start of UCF Downtown Campus construction.
We’ll also recognize yet another example of how we have mastered the power of partnership and collaborated with our residents, our business community, our educational anchors and other local governments to develop a shared vision for our City and how we’ve worked together to achieve this vision.
