Orlando Police Chief John Mina writes about how you can join OPD to celebrate police-community partnerships on October 4 during National Night Out.
Over the past few months, we have seen the Orlando community come together like never before with kindness, compassion and resilience. In that spirit, I’d like to personally invite the residents of our great city to join OPD for 2016 National Night Out on Tuesday, October 4.

This community-building event bolsters our successful Neighborhood Watch program and makes our partnerships and relationships even stronger while making all of our neighborhoods safer, better places to live.
National Night Out has been held each year since 1984 to promote police-community partnerships and crime-prevention efforts. Millions of people in thousands of communities across the country take part. Last year, Orlando was selected to receive the “National Night Out 2015 1st Place Award” for cities with populations between 100,000 and 300,000 by the National Association of Town Watch.
In the wake of the Pulse tragedy, this community has shown the world that no act of terror can defeat us. OPD remains committed to ensuring the safety of all of our residents and visitors.
I think you’ll enjoy attending block parties or other events during National Night Out. Meet your neighbors; meet the members of your Orlando Police Department.
And let’s continue working together to build stronger, safer neighborhoods.
