On Thursday, I delivered my annual State of the City address on Church Street. I took the address “on the road” to showcase the exciting era of transportation beginning in Central Florida, starting with the launch of SunRail in just a few days.
Thanks to our community’s determination and willingness to work together, SunRail is now a reality. That perseverance and partnership that made commuter rail possible is the same formula our region has used to grow, and also overcome the challenges that we face as a community. That formula allowed us to build world-class venues, turn a cow pasture into a medical city and revitalize Downtown.
The City’s small businesses are enjoying unprecedented success and our Main Street districts are thriving. Building on our Main Street program, we are working to create a digital main street called the Orlando Tech Association. Our goal is to foster a community that is attractive to tech companies and allows entrepreneurs to put their mark on this community.
Our ability to work together will be crucial as we focus on addressing some of the challenges ahead, including ensuring the financial stability of the City, combating property crime and concentrating on homelessness. Our accomplishments have been made possible through a unique brand of collaboration and resolve. Despite these achievements, it is important to remember that many challenges remain. To overcome them, we must rely on that same formula that has served our community well.
