The City of Orlando Honors Local Veterans with Wreaths Across America Day at Greenwood Cemetery
On Saturday, December 12 at 12 noon, residents and visitors are invited to Greenwood Cemetery to honor veterans during the holiday season as part of the national Wreaths Across America Day.
As part of the event, District 4 City Commissioner Patty Sheehan will host a ceremony that honors veterans from all branches of the military: Army, Marine Corps, Navy, Air Force, Coast Guard, Merchant Marines and POW/MIA.
Immediately following, volunteers will place nearly 600 wreaths in the American Legion/Military section of the Greenwood Cemetery. The public is invited to attend the ceremony and volunteer to place wreaths.
Wreaths Across America Day began more than 20 years ago when the Worcester Wreath Company from Harrington, Maine, initiated a tradition of donating and placing wreaths on the headstones of our nation’s fallen heroes at Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, Virginia.
Jersey Mike’s Subs Central Florida stores through their customers and employees efforts, along with local citizens, raised and donated the funds to purchase the wreaths for the ceremony.
