Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer to Join Tennis Legend Rod Laver at Book Signing to Benefit the City’s Dueling Dragons Program
WHAT:
Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer will join tennis legend Rod Laver for a reception to benefit the City of Orlando’s Dueling Dragons youth rowing program. Laver, who won 200 tournament titles during his 23-year career and is the lone player in tennis history to win two Grand Slams, will take part in a question and answer session during the event, which is free and open to the public.
He will also sign copies of his autobiography, Rod Laver: A Memoir, for $50 with proceeds going to support Dueling Dragons.
Dueling Dragons is comprised of middle and high school teens and Orlando Police Department officers who team up to race competitively year round. Founded in 2011, Dueling Dragons is part of OPD’s continued efforts to prevent and reduce juvenile crime by engaging Orlando’s youth in positive activities, providing mentorship and offering safe environments for them to learn and grow.
Partnership programs between OPD and Orlando youth have resulted in a nearly 50 percent decrease in juvenile arrests since 2006.
