City of Orlando Hurricane Dorian – Update #4
Updates to Key Information for Residents Ahead of Hurricane Dorian: September 2, 2019
September 2, 2019 – ORLANDO, FL – Due to the potential impacts of Hurricane Dorian, the City of Orlando’s non-essential offices and services, including City Hall, will be closed on Tuesday, September 3, 2019 and Wednesday, September 4, 2019.
The City’s Emergency Operations Center will go to a Level 1 Full Activation on Tuesday, September 3, 2019 at 8 a.m.
At that time, the Citizen Info Line will go live. That number is – 407-246- HELP (4357). This is where residents can call to report damage, downed trees, traffic lights that are out and get information from the City on our response efforts.
SOLID WASTE UPDATE:
Following the closures of area landfills, the City has suspended residential garbage, recycling and yard waste pick up on Tuesday, September 3, 2019 and Wednesday, September 4, 2019.
Once landfills have reopened, and weather and road conditions allow, the City will notify residents of the updated solid waste collection schedule, to include missed garbage collections, and begin the cleanup process.
Please remember, there is no further curbside collection until after the storm. The City is asking residents to secure all roll carts, large items and yard waste, including tree trimmings, inside a garage, shed or closer to the home. During a severe weather event, these items can clog storm drains which may lead to flooding of property and/or the street.
PARKING GARAGE FEES WAIVED:
The City is waiving parking fees for the following parking garages for any resident who would like to park their car in a covered garage:
- City Commons Parking Garage
- Jefferson St. Garage
- Central Blvd. Garage
- Orange County Administration Garage
- Library Garage
Trailers, boats and vehicles taller than 6′ 7″ are not permitted.
RECREATION AND COMMUNITY CENTER CLOSURES:
City of Orlando neighborhood centers, and pools will be closed Tuesday, September 3, 2019 and Wednesday, September 4, 2019.
After school programs at all City neighborhood centers will be closed on Tuesday, September 3, 2019 and Wednesday, September 4, 2019.
The City is asking that all non-emergency permitting needs wait until after the storm has passed.
The previously scheduled Orlando City Council meeting has been canceled. Items scheduled to be heard at the canceled Tuesday, September 3, 2 p.m. Orlando City Council meeting have been moved to the next scheduled meeting on Monday, September 16, 2019, at 2 p.m.
The city’s Tuesday, September 3, 2019, 5:01 p.m. Budget Hearing has also been canceled. The first Budget Hearing will be heard on Monday, September 16, 2019 at 5:01 p.m., with the second Budget Hearing rescheduled for Monday, September 25, 2019 at 5:01 p.m.
The City continues to work closely with the Homeless Services Network in assisting the homeless population ahead of Hurricane Dorian.
