Our final summer session of The Garden was a bountiful harvest celebration where the students prepared fresh salad and pizza with the help of our dedicated volunteers. Through a taste-test, students compared their freshly-made pizza to frozen pizza and their fresh ingredient-topped pizza was the winner! Volunteers and students sat together to enjoy the delicious, healthy meal they made and to celebrate all they had learned. All the participants received certificates of completion and congratulatory letters from Mayor Dyer for their accomplishments. Our lead partners Orange County 4-H and Real Men Outdoors also recognized the students for making the summer session a success!
Maze Runner Party
Members of Mayor Buddy’s Book Clubcelebrated the completion of The Maze Runner, by James Dashner. Volunteers from the Rosen Hotels and Resorts came to help with the fun. The celebration started with snacks and a balloon toss, which were followed up by a wild scavenger hunt through the library. Volunteers and book club members had a great time getting to know the Downtown library together. The party wrapped with our traditional Jeopardy game highlighting trivia from The Maze Runner. Mayor Buddy Dyer, who enjoyed the kids’ enthusiastic competitiveness, kicked off the Jeopardy game and passed out copies of the next featured book in his book club, Schooled. The Orlando Public Library Downtown hosted and helped to make this event special.

Our partners with the Read and Rise program at Scholastic have generously donated more than 400 books to Mayor Buddy’s Book Club and Preschool Ambassadors, along with providing volunteers to help with celebrations for our End of Book Parties for Mayor Buddy’s Book Club. We’re thrilled that they have made Orlando Cares a priority for their organization, which has a goal of increasing childhood and family literacy.
