The Cady Way Trail is an 8-mile long asphalt pathway that follows a former railway corridor linking the City of Orlando at the Orlando Fashion Square Mall with residential and recreational areas throughout Baldwin Park, Winter Park, and connecting to Orange and Seminole County trail networks.

Intergovernmental Project

The Cady Way Trail is an innovative project that brought together five governmental entities to build and maintain the multi-use recreational trail: the City of Orlando, the Orlando Utilities Commission (OUC), the City of Winter Park, Orange County, and the Naval Training Center (NTC). The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) provided most of the construction funds through a subgrant of the Federal Intermodal Transportation Efficiency Act (I.S.T.E.A.) grant to the State of Florida. The remaining construction costs were covered by the five governmental entities through cash and in-kind contributions of labor and materials. Orange County, the City of Orlando and the City of Winter Park maintain all facilities.

Trail Characteristics

Because of its urban setting, the Trail offers easy access to recreation, shopping and employment. Approximately 1,400 visitors per day use the trail; of these 34% are bicyclists, 34% are in-line skaters, and 32% are pedestrians/joggers.

The trail alternates between a single width pathway and two paths separated by a median. When a single pathway, the Trail varies between 10 and 16 feet wide with a white line separating pedestrians from skaters and bicyclists.  Skaters and bicyclists using the wider lane of the single pathway. When the trail is divided, it is 10 feet wide on one side and 6 feet wide on the other. Bicyclists and skaters use the 10-foot wide lane.  Sign and pavement markings clearly indicate which side is used for which activity.

Narrow blue signs with white numbers on them serve as "station" or location reference numbers. They are posted every .25 miles and can be used to describe the location of any problems on the Trail. There are shelters and rest stops with benches, trash receptacles and water fountains located at convenient intervals along the Trail. The map below indicates the Cady Way Trail location, route, rest stops, parking facilities and trailheads.
