The MPB conducts public hearings
to review and report recommendations to the City Council on
the following matters: proposed plats for the subdivision of
land, boundaries of zoning districts and appropriate
regulations and amendments thereto, conditional use
applications and plans, master plans, planned developments,
expansions of non-conforming uses, public benefit uses,
annexations, abandonment, appeals of Planning Official
Determinations and Developments of Regional Impact. The
Board also reviews and makes final recommendations to the
City Council concerning recommendations on development
orders by the Downtown Development Board, Historic
Preservation Board, Board of Zoning Adjustment, and other
boards, wherever the development order involves
recommendations from more than one board.
The Board also serves as the Local Planning Agency for the
City of Orlando. As the Local Planning agency, the Board
conducts the comprehensive planning program and prepares the
comprehensive plan or elements or portion thereof for the
City of Orlando; coordinate said comprehensive plan or
elements or portions thereof with the comprehensive plans of
other appropriate local governments and the State of
Florida, recommend said comprehensive plan or elements
thereof to the City Council for adoption, monitor the
effectiveness and status of said comprehensive plan and
recommend to the City Council changes in the Comprehensive
plan from time to time; and consider whether proposed
development orders are consistent with the goals and
policies of the adopted Growth Management Plan and make
recommendations based thereon to the City Council.
