The
owner is Janet Walker. Ms.
Walker and her late husband Wayne have maintained their
architecturally significant home in excellent condition since 1988
and have adhered to the preservation concept of “do no harm”.
The
original garage was constructed of brick over wood frame and had
deteriorated. The
replacement garage while reconfigured for two cars was designed to
match the existing house with new brick and details to match the
house. The old brick
was retained and cleaned and became the walls for a new terrace
behind the house. The
main house has been maintained and restored and virtually everything
is original. The
original, historic wood windows were retained and were made energy
efficient with the addition of exterior storm windows.

The Autrey Arcade, 120 North
Orange Avenue.

The
building is owned by the Pine Street Partnership and was renovated
for Glatting Jackson Kercher Anglin, now part of AECOM.
The historic structure was built in1925 in the popular
Mediterranean Revival style. In
addition to rehabilitating this important historic structure for
current use, significant efforts were made to use sustainable
materials and energy efficient systems and fixtures.
Prior
to the rehabilitation, the building had been home to many businesses
over the years and time and ad hoc renovations had taken their toll
on the structure. The
renovations included structural upgrades, systems upgrades and
substantial interior modifications to bring the building up to
current codes and meet the requirements of the new occupants.
These renovations created vibrant, open new spaces that still
reflect the original character of the old Arcade.
A bright surprise towards the end of the project was
discovering the original
tile and terrazzo mosaic Arcade name
under a layer of more recent tile. Click
