Historic Preservation Board Calendar

The City of Orlando has produced the popular Historic Preservation Board Calendar since 1991 and each is an exceptional depiction of Orlando's treasured historic resources. The photos in each calendar are selected from submissions from community residents as part of a photo competition. The calendar themes are chosen every year by the Historic Preservation Board. 2012 Historic Preservation Board Calendar Photographic Competition

This year’s competition showcased the Lake Ivanhoe Historic Residential District. The district was placed on the National Register of Historic Places by the by the United States Department of the Interior on December 20, 2010.

The Lake Ivanhoe Historic Residential District is a part of the College Park neighborhood.  The borders of the district are roughly Princeton Street to the north, Interstate 4 to the east, Lakeview Street to the south and Eastin Avenue and Edgewater Drive to the west.  Please see the map for exact boundaries.

The approximately 262-acre district contains 1,016 buildings, of which 825 buildings contribute to the historic character of the neighborhood.  The homes were built between the 1920’s and 50’s and exhibit a wide variety of styles, including Frame and Masonry Vernacular, Bungalow, Craftsman, Colonial Revival, Dutch Colonial Revival, Mission Revival, Mediterranean Revival, Monterey Revival, Neoclassical Revival, Tudor Revival, Art Moderne, French Eclectic, International, Minimal Traditional, Ranch, Split Level, and Contemporary.

Notable features of the district include Lake Ivanhoe Park, which borders the shore of Lake Ivanhoe, Ivanhoe Plaza Park, in the southwestern section of the historic district, and the bridge at Poinsettia Avenue; Princeton Elementary School, located at the northern border of the district, is an Orlando Historic Landmark; and, the pioneer John Erricsson House, constructed c. 1882, at 19 West Princeton Street is the only surviving building erected before the development of College Park.

The competition for the 2012 calendar resulted in over 150 photos submitted. The images submitted were of very high quality and the winning 13 images were a difficult decision. Click here to see all of the images submitted for judging.

We would like to thank everyone who participated in this year’s competition and we encourage you to check back in May 2012 for details on the 2013 competition.
