Mills Ave Colonial Drive Urban Design & Strategic Plan
City Vision for the Mills/Colonial
Urban Design and Strategic Plan

The City of Orlando is developing an urban design and strategic plan along the Mills (SR 17/92) and Colonial (SR 50) corridors. This area is an emerging urban, mixed use, pedestrian and transit-oriented commercial district bounded by stable, redeveloping residential neighborhoods. From the City's perspective the future physical form must take into account the functional vision for the planning area. The key elements of this vision are:

• Mills/Colonial is a safe community.

• Mills/Colonial is a recognizable as downtown, but
with its own identity.

• Mills/Colonial's building forms respect the Traditional City design principles and the importance of the public realm.

• Mills/Colonial has active "green" public spaces that showcase native plant species.

• Mills/Colonial is a gateway into Orlando.

• Mills/Colonial has public gathering spaces.

• Mills/Colonial showcases its diverse cultures.

• Mills/Colonial continues to promote a diverse entrepreneurial business environment.

• Mills/Colonial enhances its mixed-use character.

• Mills/Colonial serves as a neighborhood and community retail market.

• Mills/Colonial district transitions sensitively to its adjacent neighborhoods.

• Mills/Colonial's transportation system gives equal status to pedestrians, bicyclists, mass transit and motorists.
