This is one of the best evergreens for hot weather and poor dry soils.  Shore juniper is an aggressive grower.

Not all of the species and cultivars are suited for the Central Florida climate.  When purchasing, inquire if the plant has been tested for this climate.

Fun Facts
In the middle ages people thought juniper smoke gave protection against contagious diseases, such as the plague and leprosy.  More recently, the American Indians believe that a tea of juniper twigs cured stomach aches and colds.  Modern use of Juniper is as an ornamental plant and using the berries to flavor gin.
