Landscape Uses
The Century Plant excels as a strong accent, where a bold tropical effect is wanted.  As an ornamental, Century Plant is usually grown in rock gardens and in cactus and succulent gardens.  Century Plant can be grown in containers, where it stays much smaller than its outdoor brethren.

Special Notes
Century Plant can get very large, and its armed with needle-sharp spines, so don't plant it near paths or walkways.  The sharp spines that terminate the leaves can be removed so that they do not injure children and pets.

Agave comes from the Greek agaous meaning admirable, which refers to the plants striking appearance when they flower.  These plants have been used in some cultures for rope and fiber and in others for an alcoholic drink, pulque and vino mescal.
