Special Notes
Scarlet-Bush (often referred to as Firebush) grows all year round.  Its maximum color is during the summer months.  The plant's berries will attract various species of birds.

Fun Facts
It's Mayan name Ix-canan means "guardian forest" and indigenous people in Central and South America use the leaves, flowers and stems to prepare a natural medicine to treat all types of skin problems and relieve menstrual cramps.  It also is effective as an anti-inflammatory, anti-rheumatic, for fevers, diarrhea, postpartum pain and menstrual disorders.  Scientists in three different countries have documented this plant's antibacterial and antifungal properties against a wide range of fungi and bacteria with water or ethanol extracts of the plant.
