Landscape Uses
Carolina Jasmine is a fast growing vine with fragrant
flowers that appear in late winter or early spring.
Special
Notes
All parts of this plant are poisonous. A person
or animal that eats any part of this plant can get deadly
sick. The fatal effects of Carolina Jasmine have been
compared to hemlocks. Even bees that pollinate the plant are
occasionally poisoned by it.
Fun
Facts
The beauty of this vine is legendary. It is South
Carolina's state flower. The plant contains a substance that
was used in the 19th century as a pain killer and was once listed
in the Pharmacopeia, but NOT ANY MORE. This plant
kills more than pain (see Special Notes).
