Baldwin Park Parks Master Plan
The City of Orlando is committed to creating an outstanding open
space network within the Baldwin Park neighborhood. The Baldwin Park
land use plan includes active recreation areas, walkways, picnic
areas, playgrounds, tot lots and open spaces. Major recreational
facilities are located at Blue Jacket Park in the northwest corner of the property, near
the new Glenridge Middle School. An extensive passive open space system,
surrounding Lake Baldwin and much of Lake Susannah, links the
active recreation area to the balance of the base and surrounding
neighborhoods. Bicycle and pedestrian paths connect the major
elements of the open space network.
The park network provides public access to the edge of both lakes on the Baldwin Park
property, and includes a green connection between the two
lakes. This connection also serves to re-establish a direct
drainage connection from Lake Susannah to Lake Baldwin.
Over 200 Acres Of Parks And Open
Space
The parks and recreation system at Baldwin Park includes several
distinct components: active
joint use school parks, neighborhood parks and greens, linear
“resource-based” parks, and lakefront parks with environmental
enhancement. These primary elements are connected with a continuous system
of bikeways, trails and greenways.
The
Parks Master Plan builds upon the strongest traditions of
Orlando’s best parks. Masses
of large oaks create a pattern of outdoor rooms and shaded paths.
Garden architecture is featured for the 50+ acre Blue Jacket
Park. Neighborhood
parks are placed within a quarter mile of every residence.
Linear resource parks pretreat stormwater before draining to
Lake Baldwin and Lake Susannah.
Environmental Enhancement and native wetland plantings along
the lakefronts create nearly 200 acres of plant, animal and human
habitat.
