Marsy’s Law for Florida
Marsy’s law was added to the Florida State Constitution effective January 8, 2019. Marsy’s law is an expansion of rights for victims of crime. It includes a legal obligation by the criminal justice system to keep the victim or surviving family informed of any hearings or other timely developments regarding the defendant or any change in their custody status. Marsy’s law also permits crime victims and victims’ families with the ability to weigh in on defendants sentences and plea bargains.
