On
Saturday, October 3, 2009, the Orlando Police Department participated in the
American Heart Association Heart Walk at Loch Haven Park. This event is the
American Heart Association's signature fund raising event to save lives from
Americas Number One and Number Three killers-- Heart Disease and Stroke. The
Orlando Police Department has been participating in this event for many years.
Due to chronic stress, the risk for cardiovascular disease is higher among law
enforcement officers than the rest of the population.
OPD
Heart Walk Chairperson, Officer Barb McClelland organized bake sales, charity
bingo events and sold T-shirts to raise money for the cause. The Orlando Police
Department was able to raise over $3400.00 for this worthy cause.
