DETECTIVE BARBARA BERGIN-Retirement-OPD
NEW CRIMELINE DIRECTOR
Detective Bergin was hired on September 2, 1983. She
worked in Patrol, Planning and Research, the Tactical Patrol Force,
the Criminal Investigations Division in the Sex Crimes Unit and
Homicide Unit. She was promoted to Master Police Officer on
September 3, 1998. She has been assigned to CrimeLine since 2002.
Detective Bergin was the first female Homicide Detective of
the Orlando Police Department. She spent 10 years in Homicide
and solved all but 4 cases. She also started an annual golf
tournament 10 years ago for the Bereaved Survivors of Homicide
and has raised $50,000. She was the 1998 Law Enforcement
Officer of the Year for both OPD and the Orange County Bar
Association. She is a popular instructor during the Serious Injury
and Death Investigation course. She served as the assistant Public
Information Officer during the 3 day Armstrong hostage situation.
As the Law Enforcement Coordinator of CrimeLine,
CrimeLine went from working 3,600 tips a year and solving an
average of 5 cases a month to having received 14,000 tips a year
and solving 95-100 cases a month. The Central Florida CrimeLine Program is now
one of the top 2
Crime Stopper programs in the nation.
Detective Bergin retired and was recognized with 25
years of distinguished service to the Orlando.
Barb Bergin assumes
new duties as the Crimeline Director.
