Do I need a Driver Permit?
It is unlawful for
any person to operate, cause to be operated, allow to be operated, or drive a
Vehicle-for-Hire in or upon any street within the city limits of Orlando unless
and until such person driving the vehicle shall have first obtained a Driver's
Permit.
In addition to completing a Driver Permit application, all
applicants must ensure that a criminal history search through the Florida
Department of Law Enforcement is on file with the Vehicles for Hire staff. Such
record check must come directly from one of the participating private
investigators and NOT delivered by the applicant. The average records check
costs $35.00-$40.00. Call the Vehicles for Hire office for information as to the
participating private investigators. In addition, staff will charge a $25.00 fee
when they prepare the driver permit (fee includes ID photos which will be taken
by staff).
Any applicant who has charges pending for any of the following or has been
convicted of any of the following, will not be issued a driver permit:
-
Any felony
-
Any crime involving the sale or possession of controlled
substances
-
DUI
-
Recless driving (not "Careless" driving)
-
Exposure of the sexual organs
-
Prostitution-related offenses
Anyone operating any of the vehicles that are required to have a
City of Orlando Vehicle for Hire Permit must possess a valid City of Orlando
Driver Permit.
